COLORS OF FALL

Using the leaves we pressed from our nature hikes we looked at the attributes of leaves.   How they are the same and different.  We looked at the colors of the leaves, which is the one most of the class notice first.  I also sorted some of the leaves by shape and by size

I began to call people over during work choice time to work with me to sort by one attribute and will continue working with them next week.

MAXI: They are brown.

MAX: These are the same shape.

Kaia and Jenna were using the primary colors to make purples and browns.  Experimenting with mixing the colors.  Showing colors you see at this time of year.

This class really enjoys playing games.  Sleeping grump is a game friends are just learning to play.  You have to try and collect the treasure before sleeping grump wakes up.

Another game that friends are just starting to learn how to play is Checkers.

One of my favorite games is No Stress Chess.  This is a great way to introduce chess to young children.  There is a pack of cards, and each card tells you which piece you are allowed to move.   The card Shows you how to move that piece on the board.

Play-doh continues to be a hit.  Lots of cookies for everyone.

Miniature versions of ourselves are in the classroom for everyone to play with.  We sent a set to Eli so he can play with the class at home.  Look closely can you spot Eli?

Ms. Wahl was out sick today so we took both classes to the gym and played a game of Color wheel captain.  We also had a surprise as we began to play we had a Lockdown drill.

Today we read  Grow! Raise! Catch! How we get our food by Shelley Rotner

This links into Mr. Andrews visiting the Farmer's Market tomorrow and where the food we buy in stores and markets come from.

CHARLOTTE: My grandma and grandpa grow onion.
BROOKLYN: I don't like blackberries.
LIVIO: Sunflowers are like the sun.
CHARLOTTE: That pasta looks like mermaid hair
KAIA: I like potatoes.
CHARLOTTE: What does raise mean? (In the book it mentioned raising cattle)
CHARLOTTE: How do cows turn into beef? (I didn't go into too much detail but mentioned they die and the meat is inside of them)
MAXI: Can I see the lobster? (There were people catching lobsters in the book)
KAIA: My mom grows watermelons.
JENNA: At our garden we grown cucumbers, carrots, parsley, basil and tomatoes.
CHARLOTTE: I grow basil and mint, but the mint didn't grow very well.
BROOKLYN: My plants are dying.
KAIA: My plants never die.

We ended our day raking leaves in the hope of creating a leaf pile to jump into.  Not quite enough leaves yet, but there is still time .

QUESTIONS
Can you explain how to play Color wheel captain?
Can you explain what we had to do during the Lockdown drill?
