During morning meeting we continued our conversation about Martin Luther King Jr.
Jenna. He made the way people think change.
Max. He changed everything so people don’t argue.
Ren: He turned the world upside down.
Ms Small: What’s different between a superhero and a hero?
Livio: A superhero has the “super”,but hero doesn’t.
Ms Small: Do heroes have super powers like superheroes ?
Everyone: No!
We discussed how Martin Luther King Jr. was kind and followed our Welcome rule.
Livio: I was thinking I’m going to be nice to my grandma because she’s nice to me and we eat yummy food at her house. One time she gave us seconds.
Ms Small: Is she your hero?
Livio: Not really, but she’s my grandma and I love her.
Ren: My dad is my hero because he gets me to the park. He also gives me apple juice and food.
Max: Spiderman is a real superhero.
Ms Small: Is there a member of your family that is a hero?
Livio: I think Martin Luther King Jr. was a superhero. How did Martin Luther King Jr. get out of jail?
We discussed why Martin Luther King Jr. went to jail and how he got out. We will transition into conversations about how we can be inspired by what he did. Think about how we can help each other. We will also talk about other people that we consider heroes and read some books about other people around the world that made changes to the way we do things now. If there are any books you have read with your child at home that you would like to share with the class. Please send them to school and we will find time to read it.
A few more friends worked on their play-doh faces.
There was a lot of interest in dressing up as kitty cats.
At the end of the morning we read Happy Birthday Martin Luther King
Ms Small: What can you do to be kind?
Brooklyn: Help people.
Grace: If someone got hurt, I can go get a bandaid.
Annie: By making food for others.
We ended the morning by playing another game of name bingo with a twist. Everyone got someone else's name.

THURSDAY - Lights and Mirrors
Livio and Hannah noticed the small mirrors in the Science area and realized that the light reflecting from the mirror was showing up on the ceiling and walls. This created a lot of interest and a group of students from my class had a lot of fun controlling where the light went. While others tried to catch the light. Noticing how it disappeared. Wondering why it disappeared. The animals became a part of their play as they created a story. Changing from the giant lobster being attacked by the light, to the lobster trying to catch the light. This went back and forth with other animals joining.
Another group of students were busy creating a Cookie Bakery.
Charlotte started the Cookie Bakery. She made free coupons for each person in the room with their name on it. Max joined and was inspired by Charlotte creating more free coupons for the class.
Maxi and Eli decided to join making sweets and a gingerbread man.
We added a tablecloth to help decorate the Bakery. Charlotte and Max placed their cookies out for Sale with the signs that Charlotte had created.
Helping us think of the ways we can make a change in the word with one small act of kindness at a time.
