MAKING STONE SOUP

 Bring what you've got

Put it in the pot

We're making Stone soup!

Our first cooking project of the year.

Everyone in our class helped cut up vegetables for Stone soup and followed the rules on how to use a knife safely.  The soup wasn't quite ready by the end of the morning so we will taste test it tomorrow.

We put an image of a large soup pot on the whiteboard, and let the children decide which vegetables they wanted to add to it.

A new addition to the classroom this week are sunflowers from my garden.  They have to pick the sunflower seeds using the tweezers, a great way to help develop their pincer grip.  Once we have collected all the seeds we will put them out for the birds and squirrels.

Today we read a version of Stone soup retold by Marcia Brown.

QUESTIONS
What was the same and different about this Stone soup story compared to the first one we read?
What vegetables do you remember chopping up for the soup?

I thought you would be interested in seeing images of your child chopping vegetables .  Below I have posted a picture of everyone in the class working hard to make our soup.
