FACES

During morning meeting we read Let's make faces by Hanoch Piven to inspire us before we tackled our new self identity project.  All week we will create  faces using materials from the invention center and other parts of the classroom.  This is step one in a multi step process of creating their faces using various mediums.

Grace used stones to represent her curly hair

The two corks at the bottom are Ren's arms sticking out

Charlotte came up with an ingenious way to represent her glasses, using the blue glass jewels

The invention center was busy, as a group of students worked with me, making unicorn horns.  The children  worked with sparkly gold paper and silver tape to make the horn then attached it to a headband.

Using staplers and tape to put it all together.  Sometimes needing support when stapling tricky areas.

Other work choices included

Playing mom

Feeding baby

Playing with wild animals

Using mini me figures while playing farm

Grinding, cinnamon sticks, anise and cloves, some of the spices we will use when we make our gingerbread cookies.  (not these exact ones :)

Small blocks was another area that attracted a lot of people.

They have started to really embrace using other manipulatives to add to the small block battleships.

Mila and Grace's daddy, Robb Bader joined us via zoom and read

Goodnight, goodnight Construction site.

The children had a few questions and comments after the story

Ren: At my old school my teacher read that book

Kaia: I have that book at my house

Livio: Why do the construction site make holes.  The people are gonna fall in those holes.

Robb Bader:   Everyone at the construction site practices safety.  They know how to climb in and out of the holes.

Grace: How do you build buildings that high?

Robb: Two things help us build that high, the crane and the ladder.

Max:  Maybe we could make an activity in the class and use boxes.

QUESTIONS
What was Robb's favorite vehicle on a constructions site?

What  is your favorite vehicle on a construction site?

When you smelled the spices, which was your favorite?
