We started a new project today. Part of the self identity piece we work on throughout the year. Looking at the letters in their names. We discuss each of the letters, looking at uppercase and lowercase. Can they identify all of the letters? Do they know the sounds each letter makes? Do they know any of the other letters in the alphabet ? Do they know any other words? None of this is a prerequisite for Kindergarten. It is just a fun way to explore the letters in their name and notice if their friends have any of the same letters.
We put lots of collage materials out and let the children get creative.
Our class explored the Geo-boards for the first time today. They discovered you can make a house or tree using geometric shapes or create a beautiful design with the multi-colored elastic bands.
We also introduced a large basket of different animal puppets. Lucy surprised Kaia with Toad and bumblebee.
COMMUNITY DAY
Ms Lukkasson joined us today for the first of three music lessons. We worked on moving in time to the music. Moving fast and moving slow as well as making animal movements reviewing a song she taught us last year.
During work choice time building with small blocks and manipulatives was a very popular choice.
Charlotte created a symmetrical tall tower. I asked if she wanted to make it taller but she was concerned about it's stability deciding not to add more as it might fall down.
A few friends wanted to carry on decorating their names.
Livio sorted out the animals explaining how some of the animals and dinosaurs were good guys and some were bad guys, and the elephant was a bad guy. Brooklyn watched with interest as the animals battled.
Kaia worked with a few friends in dress up to help their skeleton patient. They had a problem as he would not go to sleep. Kaia and Farrah came up with a plan to play music and asked me to play Let it go (from Frozen). Unfortunately it didn't work. Farrah thought about singing to him but didn't want to sing by herself.
Kaia came up with the idea of covering his eyes and then thought that tightening the bandage around his neck would help. She worked for a long time putting a lot of effort into trying to get the bandage tight, but it didn't seem to help.
QUESTIONS
