Shana Tova!
A good and sweet year!
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year celebration starts tonight and ends on Sunday evening.
While we were outside on the playground Yossi's dad surprised the class by blowing the Shofar and showing them the different sounds he can make with the instrument.

Then we headed inside where parents had joined via Zoom to explain why and how people celebrate Rosh Hashanah.
Alyson, Yossi's mom,
Marissa, Grace and Mila's mom
Marni and Brent, Eva's mom and dad
Eli and his mom, Bari
Jenna also joined us along with her parents Lori and Kashif our room reps.
Marni explained why people celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Marissa told us how her family like to celebrate the New Year.
Alyson read Sammy the Spider's first Rosh Hashanah. Marissa read Apples and Honey by Joan Holub.
Both of them are great books to help children understand how Rosh Hashanah is celebrated and if you don't have Alyson or Marissa at home to read the books to you here are two links from Youtube. Morah Becky reads Sammy Spider's first Rosh Hashanah. Apples and honey by Joan Holub is read by Sigal.
After saying Thank you to the families for sharing their New Year celebration we ate apples and honey
before starting work choices.

During work choice time the children helped create a Happy Rosh Hashanah card for the Jewish families in our community. We used crayons to draw apples, other fruits etc. Then we painted over the crayon drawing and watched how the wax crayon pushes the paint away. We call this crayon resist.
