This morning we watched Mr. Andrews video of his visit to the Hoese Farm, in Mayer, Minnesota. The Hoese family have owned the farm since 1882.

Milking a cow
The corn silo where they can store up to 72 truck loads of corn
After watching the video each student made a thank you card for Farmer Eric and Farmer Scott.
We posted a photo of the farm onto the whiteboard. Allowing the children to add their own drawings to the image.
A group of students worked with the two farm sets lining all the cows up for milking.
LUCY: We need green paper for the grass, and blue for the ocean. When she saw the other colors she decided they needed a purple field. I offered brown for mud, "Oh, OK, we can use brown."
At the end of the morning the children shared the M, words they brought with them and we were able to brainstorm a few others to add to the list. We came up with thirty five 'M' words. An impressive number for the first day.
We read It's Milking Time by Phyllis Alsdorf. The book shows a father and daughter working together to milk the cows each day.
